エドモントンは、カナダのアルバータ州の州都で、州都としてはトロントに次ぐ第2位の人口規模を持ちます。肥沃な農業地帯が広がるプレーリーに位置し、ノースサスカチュワン川が周辺地域の中心を流れています。州北部で盛んなオイルサンド産業と、ノースウエスト準州で運営されている大規模なダイヤモンド鉱への玄関口となっていますが、文化や行政、教育が盛んな地域でもあります。特に教育分野では、多数の施設及びキャンパスで60,000人以上の学生たちが高等教育を受けているカナダの主要な教育センターの一つとなっています。

Edmonton is on the North Saskatchewan River and the city with nearly 1 million population is the Alberta’s second-largest city and Canada’s fifth-largest municipality. Known as the “Gateway to the North”, the city is a staging point for large-scale oil sands projects occurring in northern Alberta and large-scale diamond mining operations in the Northwest Territories. Edmonton is a cultural, governmental and educational centre. It hosts a year-round slate of festivals, reflected in the nickname “Canada’s Festival City”.
