ウルルは先住民アボリジニのピチャンチャチャラ語での呼び名で、エアーズロックは、発見者英国人探検家ウィリアム・ゴスが、1873年当時の南オーストラリア植民地首相ヘンリー・エアーズにちなんで名づけました。

ウルルは世界で2番目に大きい一枚岩です。ちなみに世界最大の一枚岩は西オーストラリア州のマウント・オーガスタスです。

Astronaut Onishi’s Must-go list includes the World Heritage Uluru of Australia. It took awhile for him to spot it from ISS.

Uluru is local aboriginal language Pitjantjatjara while Ayers Rock was named by Williams Gosse in honor of the 1873 then Chief Secretary of South Australia, Sir Henry Ayers.

Uluru is the second largest monolith on the Earth. For comparison the largest monolith is the Mount Augustus of the Western Australia.
