ナコーンサワンはドヴァーラヴァティー王国時代からの歴史を有する町で、首都バンコクから約250km北です。スコータイ王朝時代は、スコータイの南の前衛都市として機能し、ムアン・プラバーンと呼ばれました。アユタヤ王朝時代もピン川とナーン川が合流する地点にあることから物流の中心地として栄えました。

Nakhon Sawan, the name literally means “Heavenly City”. Nakhon Sawan is about 250km north of Bangkok, and marks the point of confluence of two of Thailands major rivers, the Ping and the Nan. These converge in Nakhon Sawan to form the Chao Phraya which flows south to Bangkok and out into the Gulf of Thailand.
