ちなみに、アフリカ西岸から巻き起こる砂嵐は、地球規模の生態系という視点で見ると意外な役割を担っています。No.116: アフリカの黄砂でも紹介しましたが、アフリカ西岸の黄砂は5千kmもの距離を旅し、なんと大西洋の対岸のアマゾンの熱帯雨林にまで到達し、植物の成長に不可欠なリンを、洪水や自然風化などで傷んだアマゾン地域の土壌に供給していると、NASAの研究で明らかになっています。
