ルソン島は、フィリピン諸島のうちで最も面積の大きな島でフィリピンの総面積の35%を占め、世界で4番目に人口が多い島です。首都マニラやフィリピンで最も人口が多いケソン、およびそれらを包括する首都圏メトロ・マニラが所在しており、フィリピンの政治・経済で特に重要な位置を占めています。良港であるマニラ港により、フィリピンの海の玄関として機能しています。化学製品、織物、洋服、電子機器、飲食物、タバコ、ロープ、合板、精製糖、コプラ、ココナッツオイルなど幅広い商品が輸出用に生産されています。

Astronauts on board ISS captured Luzon Island and Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. The gray part on the right of Manila Bay of the lower right corner of the Luzon Island is Manila.
Luzon with a population of 53 million is the 4th most populous island in the world, containing 52.5% of the country’s total population. It is the economic and political center of the nation, being home to the country’s capital city, Manila, as well as Quezon City, the country’s most populous city. Industry is concentrated in and around the urban areas of Metro Manila while agriculture predominates in the other regions of the island producing crops such as rice, bananas, mangoes, coconuts, pineapple, and coffee. Other sectors include livestock raising, tourism, mining, and fishing.
