[:ja]セルゲイ・リャザンスキー宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したイギリスのサザンプトンです。
はサザンプトン水道の北端に位置します。サザンプトン水道は水深の深い河口で、それは氷河期の終わりに形勢されたリアス式海岸で、ここへテスト川とイッチェン川が流れ込みます。ローマ人が最初に港町として移住し、11世紀頃ノルマン人に征服され、貿易港として栄えました。その後、ヨーロッパ各地と結ぶ港町として有名となり、定期客船のタイタニック号はここから出港しました。長年にわたって西部造船所のために多くのウォーターフロントが開発され、水道が浚渫されたので、サザンプトン港は世界最大の船が入港できるだけの水深が確保されています。
