[:ja]セルゲイ・リャザンスキー宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した大西洋のサウスジョージア島です。
サウスジョージア島は南大西洋にある全長167kmの島で、イギリス海外領土であるサウスジョージア・サウスサンドウィッチ諸島に含まれます。気候は極地ツンドラ気候に分類され、表土を覆う木はなく、4月から11月までの冬季はおおむね雪に覆われています。山がちな地形で、中央に尾根があり、多くのフィヨルドや入り江が海岸沿いにあり、ゾウアザラシやオットセイ、オウサマペンギンの繁殖地でもあります。最大都市グリトビケンには夏に32人、冬にはその半分の16人ほどが居住しています。

South Georgia is 167km long and is part of the British Overseas territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The island is classified as polar tundra climate. It has no tree cover, and there is generally snow on the island during the winter months (April–November). The terrain is mountainous, with a central ridge and many fjords and bays along the coast. Additionally, South Georgia is a breeding ground for elephant seals, fur seals, and king penguins. The main settlement is Grytviken with summer population of 32 and 16 in winter.
