モザンビークは、アフリカ大陸南東部に位置する共和制を取る国家で、首都はマプトです。旧ポルトガルの植民地であり、独立戦争を戦い抜いた後の1975年に独立を達成しました。ポルトガル語諸国共同体、ポルトガル語公用語アフリカ諸国の加盟国ではあるものの、隣接国が全て英語圏の国家であるため1995年からイギリス連邦に加盟しています。イスラムの沿岸商人とヨーロッパの植民者の影響があったのにもかかわらず、モザンビークの人々は小規模農業に基づいた土着の文化を保っています。中流階級や上流階級はポルトガル植民地時代の遺産と、言語的影響を今も強く受けています。また、モザンビークは石炭や宝石などの鉱物資源に恵まれており、資源開発が行われています。2012年からは大規模な天然ガス田の資源が沖合いに発見され注目を集めています。

Mozambique is located in Southeast Africa. After over four centuries of Portuguese rule, Mozambique gained independence in 1975. After 1994 when the country held its first multiparty elections, and it has since remained a relatively stable presidential republic, although it still faces a low-intensity insurgency. Mozambique is endowed with rich and extensive natural resources. The country’s economy is based largely on agriculture, but industry is growing, mainly food and beverages, chemical manufacturing and aluminium and petroleum production. The tourism sector is also expanding.
The local scenery on the ground of Maputo, the capital city, is as follows.
