[:ja]クリスティーナ・コッシュ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した南十字星です。
南十字座（Crux）は南天の星座の一つで、全天88星座のなかで最も小さいものです。南十字星、または英語での通称サザンクロス（Southern Cross）としても知られており、南方にある星座のため北半球では見えない場所が多いです。3方向をケンタウルス座で囲まれており、残りの部分ははえ座に接している。ケンタウルス座α星、ケンタウルス座β星を結んだ線をβ星方向に伸ばすと、この星座のおおよその方角を指します。天の南極には南極星に当たる目立った星がないため、大航海時代以来おもに南十字座が天の南極を測るために使われました。α星とγ星の間隔を、α星に向け約4.5倍すると、だいたい天の南極に到達します。α星・β星ともに、全天21の1等星の一つです。

Crux is a constellation centred on 4 stars in the southern sky in a bright portion of the Milky Way. It is among the most easily distinguished constellations as its hallmark (asterism) stars each have an apparent visual magnitude brighter than +2.8, even though it is the smallest of all 88 modern constellations. Its name is Latin for cross, and it is dominated by a cross-shaped or kite-like asterism that is commonly known as the Southern Cross. Crux can mostly be observable in the southern hemisphere.
