ダーウィンは、ティモール海に面したオーストラリア準州ノーザンテリトリーの州都で、人口は15万人弱です。75の民族、人口の約4分の1がアボリジニなどの原住民という非常に多文化的な都市です。ダーウィンは明確な乾季と雨季を持つサバナ気候（Aw）で、5月から9月までが乾季です。降水量の最も多い時期である12月から3月には激しい雷雨がよく発生し、湿度は70%を超えます。世界でも有数の雷発生地域で2002年には数時間で1600回を超え、パースの年間発生回数と同じでした。

Situated on the Timor Sea, Darwin is the 145K capital city of the Northern Territory of Australia. The Dutch created the first European maps of the area. This accounts for the Dutch names in the area. Darwin has a tropical savanna climate (Köppen Aw) with distinct wet and dry seasons and the average maximum temperature is similar all year round. The majority of rainfall occurs between December and March (the southern hemisphere summer), when thunderstorms are common and afternoon relative humidity averages over 70 percent during the wettest months.
