[Earthview Wonders] No.935: Agriculture in Egyptian Desert🇪🇬
Astronaut on board ISS captured the agriculture in East Oweinat, southern Egypt. The photo shows dots which are actually a cluster of circular farm units.

Large agricultural projects at East Oweinat are operating in the desert 600km west of Lake Nasser. Approximately one-third of the Egyptian labor force works in farming, and pioneering agricultural projects encourage people to leave the very heavily populated Nile Delta and to seek economic opportunities in the desert. Fresh water for East Oweinat is pumped from underground aquifers, and it is a non-renewable resource. The fossil water underground accumulated between 20,000 and 5,000 years ago when the Sahara was much wetter.
The local scenery on the ground is as follows.
