The Volga is the longest (3,690m) river in Europe, Europe’s largest river in discharge and drainage basin, and is therefore often referred to as Волга-матушка Volga-Matushka (Mother Volga) in Russian literature and folklore. The river flows through central Russia and into the Caspian Sea, creating the Volga Delta, an area of 3,222 km2 and 160km across. The Volga Delta and the nearby Caspian Sea offer superb fishing grounds and Astrakhan, at the delta, is the center of the caviar industry.

The local scenery on the ground is as follows.
