[:ja]NASAの地球観測衛星Landsat 8が撮影したエジプトの首都カイロです。都市肥大化に伴い、南東のニューカイロシティが建設されています。
カイロ市への人口流入は続き、総人口は9,300万人と発表されていますが、1億人に達しているのではないかという憶測もあります。2009年頃からカイロ市の過密化が進み、都市としての機能不全が顕著になってきました。歩いて30分程度の距離に2時間以上かかることもあり、タクシーにも乗れなくなるなどの混雑がある中、シシ大統領が首都移転を打ち出しました。

NASA’s Landsat 8 captured Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Along with the expansion of the city, New Cairo City has been established.
New Cairo is located on the southeastern edge of Cairo Governorate to alleviate the congestion in downtown Cairo. On Apr. 27, 2016, President Sisi inaugurated the new headquarters of the Ministry of Interior in New Cairo. There are dozens of factories in New Cairo and GE is already working with the American University in New Cairo on energy initiatives. The city could eventually host a population of 5 million.
