[:ja]宇宙ステーションからのなかなか面白い一枚。ヨーロッパとアジアを結ぶ航空機が通るルート上の飛行機雲です。主要ルートのようで、何本も飛行機雲が見えます。
飛行機雲はエンジンから出る排気ガスが作り出す雲です。飛行機のエンジンがマイナス40℃以下の外気を吸い込んで、圧縮・燃焼させ、300~600℃となった排気ガスを出すと、その中の水分が急に冷やされて凍り、雲となって白く見えます。冬の寒い日に息を吐くと、白くなるのと同じですね。

Contrails are produced by jet exhaust. When engines completes a cycle of sucking in -40C air, compressing, combusting and exhausting air, water vapor rapidly crystalizes to form line-shaped clouds.
