[:ja]2016年12月8日、米国人として初めて地球周回飛行を成し遂げた宇宙飛行士、ジョン・グレン上院議員が95歳で亡くなりました。多くの著名人から哀悼の言葉が寄せられています。スペースシャトルのSTS-95ミッションでは、日本の向井宇宙飛行士とともに、同氏は77歳にして宇宙飛行にも飛び立ちました。
1962年、グレン氏はマーキュリー宇宙船「フレンドシップ7」に搭乗し、米国初の地球周回飛行に成功しました。3周目の周回で撮影されたフロリダの画像がこちらです。

On Dec.8, 2016, Senator John Glenn died at 95, and tributes pour in for Senator Glenn. Mr. Glenn flew to space even at the age of 77 at STS-95 space shuttle mission.
In 1962, Mr. Glenn got onboard Friendship 7 and became the first NASA astronaut to orbit Earth. This is the Florida from the spaceship in his third orbit.
