[:ja]NASAの地球観測衛星Aquaが捉えたインドネシア🇮🇩・ロンボク海峡の海洋内部波です。

内部波は複数の波層が干渉する際に発生します。ロンボク海峡の海底は複雑な形状をしており、深層流と浅層流が異なるため、このような干渉波が発生すると考えられています。
ちなみに、ロンボク海峡はロンボク島とバリ島を隔て、最も狭いところでは幅18km、水深250mです。水深が浅いマレーシア沖のマラッカ海峡を航行できない大型船の航路として重要な海峡です。地上の様子はこちらです。

NASA’s Aqua satellite captured the internal solitary waves of Lombok Strait, Indonesia🇮🇩.

Internal waves are generated when the interface between layers is disturbed. At the Lombok Strait, with complex and rough bottom, shalow and deep channels differ and complicate water movement and generate this kind of waves.
Lombok Strait is a 18km passage way at its narrowest and has 250m depth and separates Bali and Lombok Island. The strait plays a significant role for large ships which cannot pass shallow Malacca Strait off the coast of Malaysia. The scenery on the ground is as follows.
