[Earthview Wonders] No.167: Mongolia🇲🇳

NASA’s Aqua satellite captured Mongolia🇲🇳 in winter. Snow covers an extensive area of the country. Mongolia is an Eurasian inland state and its continental climate brings harsh winter with lower than -20C temperature. Mongolia is currently faced with an unusually cold and snowy winter for the second year in a row with potentially serious damage to a large number of animals.

The Mongolian term for this extremely severe winter condition is called “Dzud”. If dzud continues for several days, a large number of livestock starve to die due to being unable to graze. In 2016 more than 1 million cattle died during dzud.
