「こうのとり」は日本が開発した、給物資を国際宇宙ステーションISSに運ぶ無人補給機です。高度120kmで大気圏に再突入し、中間圏（80km）で空力加熱で溶融が始まり、最後まで融解されずに残った破片が南太平洋上に落下します。
