渤海では漁業が盛んで、主要な漁港は煙台ですが、2015年に経済参考報が、「天津市、河北省、遼寧省、山東省の流域工業地帯から流入する汚水は毎年28億トン、河川水が増水する夏場を中心に、無機窒素や活性リン酸塩などの汚染物質70万トンが湾内に溜まる。渤海湾に汚水を注ぐ河川は、主だったものだけでも57本を数える」と伝えています。

汚染の状態は深刻で、2016年5月には、世界銀行が渤海の汚染軽減のために米9.5百万ドルを拠出しています。

[Earthview Wonders] No.206: Bohai Sea of China🇨🇳

Astronaut Takuya Onishi captured from ISS China’s Bohai Sea, the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea bounded by the Changshan Islands chain between the Liaodong and Shandong Peninsulas, Northeastern China. From this image sea pollution can be recognized off the coast of Tianjin.

Fishing plays an important role in the area but as Chinese media reported that “More than 2.8 billion tons of waste water and 700,000 tons of other pollutants are being discharged into northeastern China’s Bohai Sea every year and are threatening the local ecosystem.”

In May 2016, The World Bank Group approved a US$9.5 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) today to help China increase water productivity and reduce pollution discharges in the three river basins entering the Bohai Sea, by mainstreaming and scaling up an innovative approach to integrated water and environmental management.
