キリバスはギルバート諸島、フェニックス諸島、そしてライン諸島の一部等を領土とする国家で、イギリス連邦加盟国です。33の環礁から成りますが、10万人強の人口の大半は首都タラワのあるタラワ環礁に居住しています。赤道付近に350万km2にわたって散在しているため、世界第3位の排他的経済水域を有しています。また、世界で最も早く日付が変わる国でもあります。

Kiribati is an island nation in the central Pacific Ocean. The nation comprises 33 atolls and reef islands of which half of the entire population of 100,000 live on Tarawa Atoll. Kiribati’s land is dispersed over 3.5 million km2 and has the third largest exclusive economic zone in the world. It is the first country which experiences date change.
