[:ja]セルゲイ・リャザンスキー宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したニュージーランド南島のバンクス半島です。
バンクス半島はリトルトン火山とアカロア火山の主に2つの複合楯状火山が浸食されてできたもので、これは南島で最も著名な火山地形です。1830年代には捕鯨基地として栄え、1840年代にフランス人が入植した地区であり、現在でもヨーロッパ調の建物が多く残っています。クライストチャーチから直線距離で南西にあるアカロアが最大の町であり、ここから遊覧観光船が出ています。「バンクス半島海生哺乳類保護区」に指定されているこの海域には様々な生物が生息し、遊覧船に乗り貴重なセッパリイルカやニュージーランドオットセイ、シャチなどの海洋生物を観察できます。

Astronaut Sergey Ryazansky captured from ISS Banks Peninsula of the South Island, New Zealand.
Banks Peninsula is a peninsula of volcanic origin on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It has an area of approximately 1,150km2 and encompasses two large harbors and many smaller bays and coves. The South Island’s largest city, Christchurch, is immediately north of the peninsula.
The local scenery on the ground of Akaroa, a small town on the peninsula is as follows.
