[:ja]ハッブル宇宙望遠鏡が撮った、衝撃的な木星のオーロラです!2014年撮影の木星全体の画像と、ハッブルが紫外線波長域でとらえた疑似カラー画像を組み合わせています。

オーロラは地球と同様、太陽からのプラズマ粒子が惑星の磁力線に沿って極地方に向かって加速し、大気中の粒子と衝突して光るのは変わりませんが、他の惑星でも見られる現象であるというのはロマンがありますね。
タイミングよく、NASAの探査機「ジュノー」が5年かかって7月4日に木星に到達予定で、木星探査も盛り上がりそうです。
