[:ja]宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した米国アリゾナ州北部にある峡谷、グランドキャニオンです。
これはコロラド高原がコロラド川の浸食作用によって削り出された地形であり、地球の歴史を秘めている価値と共に、その雄大な景観から合衆国の初期の国立公園の一つであるグランド・キャニオン国立公園に含まれ、国立公園は1979年に世界遺産に登録されました。今から7000万年前、地殻変動により隆起、約4000万年前にコロラド川による浸食が始まり、現在見られるような峡谷になったのは約200万年前です。

The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, U.S. Nearly 2w billion years of Earth’s geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it.
