[:ja]ボブ・ベンケン宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したベネズエラ北部にサハラ砂漠の砂が到達した様子です。No. 1061で紹介の通り、サハラ砂漠の砂は5千kmもの距離を旅し、大西洋を越え、南アメリカ、アマゾン熱帯雨林にまで到達します。アマゾンの熱帯雨林の成長が多少なりともサハラ砂漠の砂に依存しているとは興味深いです。

Astronaut Bob Behnken captured from ISS the Saharan dust cloud reaching northern Venezuela. As introduced in No. 1061, sand dust from Sahara Desert travels 5,000km over the Atlantic Ocean to reach the Amazon rainforests of South America. It is interesting to note that Amazon forest’s growth more or less relies on Sahara Desert.
