72時間に10000回以上の落雷により、カリフォルニア州北部を中心に山火事が広がっています。山火事は自然現象として毎年ありますが、記録的な熱波により火事が急速に広がり、8月16日時点で1,200km2が消失しました。煙はカリフォルニア州西部の広範囲に広がっています。

Astronaut Chris Cassidy captured from ISS wildfires in California.
With over 10,000 lightning strikes in 72 hours, hundreds of wildfires erupted across northern California. The fires, which have been exacerbated by a historic heatwave, have burned more than 1,200km2 in the state since August 16, 2020. Smoke has spread across large swaths of the western United States and the Pacific Ocean. NASA’s GOES-17 captured the following image.
