[:ja]イワン・ワグナー宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したカンボジアのアンコールワットです。
アンコール・ワットは、カンボジア北西部に位置するユネスコの世界遺産（文化遺産）であるアンコール遺跡の一つであり、その遺跡群を代表する巨大な寺院です。建設時はヒンドゥー教寺院として作られましたが、16世紀後半に仏教寺院に改修され、現在も上座部仏教寺院となっています。クメール語でアンコールは王都、ワットは寺院を意味するため、アンコール・ワットは「国都寺院」という意味となります。大伽藍と美しい彫刻を特徴としクメール建築の傑作とされ、カンボジア国旗の中央にも同国の象徴として描かれています。

Angkor Wat, located in northwest Cambodia, is the largest religious structure (temple complex) in the world by land area. The temple was built at the behest of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura (យសោធរបុរៈ, present-day Angkor), the capital of the Khmer Empire, as the state temple for the empire. Originally constructed as a personal mausoleum for Suryaman, dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu in the early 12th century, it was converted to a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century.
