[:ja]トマ・ペスケ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影したフランス南部のニースです。
ニースは地中海・コート・ダジュールに面する、世界的に有名な保養地・観光都市です。現在はフランス領ですが、歴史的にイタリア文化圏に属した時代が長かったため、言語・文化の面ではフランスよりイタリアに近い特徴があります。ニースの東方13kmにモナコ公国、30kmにイタリア国境が、西方30kmにはカンヌがあり、北方にはアルプス山脈が広がっています。ニースは地中海性気候であり、一年を通じて気候が安定しています。夏はよく晴れ乾燥しており、欧州各地から夏のバカンスに訪れる者が多く、ビーチは遊泳や日光浴を楽しむもので込み合います。

Located in the French Riviera, on the south east coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the Alps, Nice is the second-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast. Through the ages, the town has changed hands many times. Its strategic location and port significantly contributed to its maritime strength. The natural environment of the Nice area and its mild Mediterranean climate came to the attention of the European upper classes in the second half of the 18th century, when an increasing number of aristocratic families took to spending their winters there. Proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2021 as “Nice, Winter Resort Town of the Riviera”, the city has the second largest hotel capacity in the country,[8] and it is one of its most visited cities, receiving 4 million tourists every year.
