カナダ西部ブリティッシュコロンビア州にある山間部の町リトン（人口250人）では、6月29日に49.6度のカナダ史上最高の猛暑を観測し、同州では週末にかけて数百人が死亡しました。米国、ロシア、インド、トルコなど他国でも猛暑を記録し、異常気象による因果関係は明確にできない中でも、北半球の複数の地域が同時に熱波に見舞われているのは偶然ではなさそうだと指摘されています。

On June 29, 2021, the tiny town of Lytton with only 250 population experienced 49.6C which ias the Canada’s highest-ever temperature, in an unprecedented heat wave that has over a week killed hundreds of people and triggered more than 240 wildfires across British Columbia. Extreme heat has been witnessed in other parts of the northern hemisphere such as Russia, India, Turkey and more. There is a growing acceptance worldwide that climate change is a driving force behind fueling many extreme weather events, particularly for heat waves and storms.
