[:ja]セルゲイ・クド-スべルチコフ宇宙飛行士がISSから撮影した南米のオホス・デル・サラードです。
オホス・デル・サラドは、アルゼンチンとチリの国境に位置するチリ最高峰で、西半球および南半球で二番目に高いです。アンデス山脈の成層火山で、標高6893mは世界で最も高い活火山です。西半球最高峰である6962mのアルゼンチンのアコンカグアの約600km北にあります。アタカマ砂漠に近いため非常に乾燥しており、冠雪は通常冬の山頂部にしか見られませんが、激しい嵐が起こると夏でも数十センチの雪が積もることがあります。一般的に乾いた気象条件であるにもかかわらず、東部の6390m地点には直径100m近くの一年を通して涸れない火山湖があり、世界で最も高所にある湖とみられています。

Astronaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov captured from ISS Ojos del Salado of South America.
Nevado Ojos del Salado is a dormant complex volcano in the Andes on the Argentina–Chile border. It is the highest volcano in the world and the highest peak in Chile. The upper reaches of Ojos del Salado consist of several overlapping lava domes, lava flows and volcanic craters, with an only sparse ice cover. The complex extends over an area of 70–160km2 and its highest summit reaches an altitude of 6,893m above sea level. Numerous other volcanoes rise around Ojos del Salado. Due to its location near the Arid Diagonal of South America, the mountain has extremely dry conditions, which prevent the formation of glaciers. Despite the arid climate, there is a permanent crater lake about 100m in diameter at an elevation of 6,480-6,500m within the summit crater and east of the main summit. This is the highest lake of any kind in the world. Owing to its altitude and the desiccated climate, the mountain lacks vegetation.
