インドの独立記念日は、同国の休日および祝日であり、毎年8月15日に行われます。1947年のイギリスからのインド独立（英連邦王国としてのインド連邦の独立。パキスタンとの分離独立となった日でもあります）の後、1948年から行われています。この日には軍事パレードなど、大がかりな祭典が行われます。

Independence Day is celebrated annually on Aug. 15 as a national holiday in India commemorating the nation’s independence from the United Kingdom on Aug. 15,1947, the day when the provisions of the 1947 Indian Independence Act, which transferred legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly, came into effect. India retained King George VI as head of state until its transition to a republic, when the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950 (celebrated as Indian Republic Day) and replaced the dominion prefix, Dominion of India, with the enactment of the sovereign law Constitution of India.Independence Day is observed throughout India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events.
