[Earthview Wonders] No.1623: Tunis🇹🇳
Astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured from ISS Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. At TICAD 8 (Tokyo International Conference on African Development)held in Tunisia on Aug. 27-28, 2022, Japan pledged $30 billion over the next 3 years for African development, with a focus on investing in human capital and fostering quality growth in a continent where China and Russia are exerting their influence.

The greater metropolitan area of Tunis, often referred to as “Grand Tunis”, has about 2.7 million inhabitants. As of 2020, it is the third-largest city in the Maghreb region (after Casablanca and Algiers). Located on a large Mediterranean Sea gulf (the Gulf of Tunis), behind the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette (Ḥalq il-Wād), the city extends along the coastal plain and the hills that surround it. Products include textiles, carpets, and olive oil. Tourism also provides a significant portion of the city’s income.
The local scenery on the ground is as follows.
