サンアントニオは、米テキサス州西部の商業・金融・工業の中心地で、食品業・航空機・建築材など多種多様な工業が発展しています。市の内外に空軍基地があり、軍事都市としての一面も持ちます。一方で西部開拓時代の雰囲気をも色濃く残し、テキサス独立戦争の戦跡であるアラモ砦や近年特に人気が高いリバー・ウォークなどがあり、年間1000万人以上が訪れる全米有数の観光都市としても発展しています。ヒスパニック系の人口が多いために、スペイン語が街の案内板・広告など至る所で使われていて、スペイン語話者も多いです。

Astronaut Anton Shkaplerov captured from ISS San Antonio, Texas, U.S.
San Antonio is the 7th most populous in the U.S. Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city in 1731 became the first chartered civil settlement in what is now present-day Texas. The area was then part of the Spanish Empire. From 1821 to 1836, it was part of the Mexican Republic. It is the oldest municipality in Texas, having celebrated its 300th anniversary on May 1, 2018.
