ナイル川は全長6695kmで世界最長の川です。ルワンダ北部の高山地方に源を発するホワイトナイルと、エチオピア高原のタナ湖に源を発するブルーナイルの2つの支流が、スーダンのハルツームで合流しナイル本流となります。サハラ砂漠は、氷雪気候の南極を除くと世界最大の砂漠です。南北1,700kmに渡り面積は約1,000万km2、アフリカ大陸の3分の1近くを占め、アメリカ合衆国とほぼ同じ面積です。

The Nile River is 6695km long and is the longest in the world. The Nile has 2 major tributaries, the White Nile originating in Rwanda and Brundi, and the Blue Nile begins at lake Tana in Ethiopia. These two rivers merge at Khartoum, Sudan. The Sahara is the largest hot desert and the third largest desert in the world after Antarctica and the Arctic. Its area of 10 million km2 is comparable to the area of China or the United States.
