NASA’s Landsat 9 captured the wildflower blooming of Carrizo Plain National Monument.

The Carrizo Plain is a large enclosed grassland plain with approximately 80x24km area, in southeastern San Luis Obispo County, California. It contains the Carrizo Plain National Monument, and it is the largest single native grassland remaining in California. Large wildflower blooms – often called “superblooms” – occur sporadically in southern California. A superbloom is a rare desert botanical phenomenon in California in which an unusually high proportion of wildflowers whose seeds have lain dormant in desert soil germinate and blossom at roughly the same time. The phenomenon is associated with an unusually wet rainy season.
The local scenery on the ground is as follows.
