Landsat 9 satellite captured the volcano eruption near Grindavik, Iceland.

After 2 months of silence, a volcanic fissure once again burst open on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula on November 20, 2024. Lava from the eruption flowed across major roads and closed in on the Blue Lagoon, a popular tourist destination. The volcano erupted for the 7th time since December, 2023, sending molten lava flowing towards the Blue Lagoon spa, a major tourist attraction. The eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula started with little warning on Nov. 20, 2024, and created a fissure around 3,m long. The activity is estimated to be considerably smaller than the previous eruption in August 2024.
