NASA’s Landsat 9 satellite captured the damage to the crop field near Garden City, Kansas, U.S.

Every year, severe thunderstorms routinely pop up across the U.S. Midwest and Great Plains in the summer. The storms’ violent bursts of wind and hail often pummel crops, leaving long swaths of damaged vegetation that are easily visible from space. As shown in the image, the damage from wind and hail across farmland in Colorado and Kansas became clear in summer 2023.
