Astronaut Soichi Noguchi captured from ISS New Caledonia, a special collectivity of France in Melanesia.

While New Caledonia is famous for resort destination, the island contains about 25% of the world’s nickel resources. Also since 1985, conflicts between French government actions and the Kanak independence movement saw periods of serious violence and disorder which is no longer active as it used to be.
