The Noto Peninsula is a peninsula that projects north into the Sea of Japan from the coast of Ishikawa Prefecture in central Honshū, the main island of Japan. Before Meiji era, the peninsula belonged to Noto Province. The main industries of the peninsula are agriculture, fisheries, and tourism. The area is known for its diverse coastline, featuring capes, cliffs, and rocky shores, making it a popular destination for scenic views and tourism. Despite the challenging terrain and climate, it has developed a unique culture and atmosphere, serving as a vital hub for Japan Sea trade, including the Kitamae-bune (a type of coastal cargo ship). Events like the Wajima Asaichi morning market and the Noto Kiriko Festival, held from summer to fall throughout the peninsula, are manifestations of this distinctive local culture and spirit.
